Beaches

There are 46 sun soaked beaches around the Spice Island of Grenada. From the spectacular white sands of Grande Anse Beach, which is ideal for families, to the secluded pinkish sands of Pink Gin Beach, that lies at the tip of the island. For those couples who don’t want to be disturbed, try La Sagesse Beach. The waters around Grenada are crystal clear with calm waves that are ideal for water sports, from snorkelling to Kayaking. There is always plenty to do in and around the beaches to suit all of the family.

Sightseeing

From St George port you can watch the amazing cruise ships come into dock. Visit Fort George or Fort Fredrick with its wealth of history, then on to the colourful tropical Sunnyside Gardens. These are a must for everyone. For the nature lovers visit the volcanic lakes and beautiful waterfalls on the island, they must be seen. There are plenty of things to do for all the family. Carnival time is during the month of August. What a fun and exciting experience with the Calypso music and colourful floats parading through the streets, everyone dancing and partying till late into the night. Travelling around the island traditionally known as “Spice Island” is very easy to do by hiring a local taxi. The driver will be sure to show you all the highlights of the islands, or book a day excursion with a tourist coach company, you will find an abundance of these that will cater for all your needs. Or just ask your hotel receptionist who will be pleased to arrange trips and transportation or a local tour guide for you. Grenada is lush green and extremely hilly, so if your fitness levels are extremely high, hiking or cycling would be a fantastic way to see this beautiful Island.

Family attractions

You could visit the national park of Grenada or the working cocoa plantation on the Belmonte estate. Here you can purchase a variety of spices grown on the island from the massive outdoor markets in St George town or try hiring a yacht for the day to sail around Grenada seeing the fantastic contrasts of this lush green island against the white sand beaches.

Nightlife

Grenada has, like all of the Caribbean Islands, a fabulous nightlife from beach parties to the bars open all night playing the calypso and soca music from the island. Steel pans are often played alongside the hotel pools and there is always evening entertainment found in and out of the hotel complexes.

Shopping

There are plenty of souvenir shops to be had in the local tourist shops of St George. It also has some tax free quality jewellery stores. In recent years a new shopping development on the port has been opened, bringing more business into the town. Street vendors are all around the tourist areas selling handmade and carved wooden gifts. St George also has a large food market where you can purchase local spices grown on the island and plenty of tropical fruits and vegetables.

Eating

Food is delicious in the Caribbean, from rice and peas to Snapper fish with barbequed Jerk chicken being popular with the tourists. There are plenty of street vendors for local cuisine. Most hotels have a variety of spicy and tasty food for all the family to enjoy. If you’re not a spicy food lover there are plenty of other dishes to choose from to suit your palate.
